Because eye health is often unattended in low-income areas, Hesperian Health Guides has just released a new booklet on eye and vision care that will help health workers meet this need in their communities. Adapted from the NEW Where There Is No Doctor, Problems with the Eyes and Seeing provides health workers with the knowledge and tools to treat eye injuries, recognize and understand common eye problems such as glaucoma and cataracts, test eye sight with the ready-to-use vision-testing chart, share tips to prevent eye and vision damage, and determine when to seek medical care.

Problems with the Eyes and Seeing was developed with the collaboration of partners and reviewers around the world, including Seva Foundatio, who lended their technical expertise to the material and is helping to share the information by distributing it throughout their network.

Please share this resource widely. For more information and for bulk discount prices, visit our website: If you are interested in helping us translate this booklet into another language or field-testing other new materials for the NEW Where There Is No Doctor, please contact us at
