Regarding the free and high quality service debate – ecancer.org provides videos with experts talking about the latest developments in cancer (especially helpful for people who can’t afford to travel to conferences), CME accredited e-learning and an open access journal which has a pay what you can afford model.  Everything on ecancer.org (which is supported by the ecancer Global Foundation, a UK registered charity) is completely free to the end user.  As for APCs, only authors who have specific funding to put towards OA publication are charged.  Our author service and peer review process is comparable to any other reputable journal.

If you’re interested in more detail on how we can make this financially sustainable – here’s a paper we published in Learned Publishing on our business model https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/leap.1023
