Just how does anybody justify this? Where is the universal condemnation? This is not just any mosque. It is the third holy space of Muslims across the world! A Guide to Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The video is of people waving the Israeli flag at the Western Wall singing. They are singing a song by Dov Shurin called “Zochreini Na” translated as “Remember me”. Interspersed in the song, people are shouting the phrase “Yemach Shemam”, may the ‘Palestinian’ name be erased, the same as Jews refer to Hitler when uttering his name. The dancing and singing are hate speech by neo-fascists who see Palestinians being “wiped out” ie Yemach Shemam. That any South African can support this activity is heinous and should be taken to the Human Rights commission. Are they wanting to “wipe out” Muslim people? If they truly do support this kind of activity, it is very offensive and hurtful.
I shared this post (with just the first paragraph at the time) on a Jhb Intern WhatsApp group (amongst many others) I created to support interns doing rotations in family medicine as part of my job in the Gauteng Health Department. It was an indiscriminate share in a moment of moral outrage but important for young doctors in training to be sensitive to hate speech considering our apartheid history. What happened is that an intern shared this with the South African Jewish Report instead of approaching me. The editor WhatsApped me claiming I was providing misinformation and justifying the hate by sharing that this behaviour is part of a public holiday and celebration. He demanded an apology before publishing and, in a veiled threat, suggested that my “credibility and professional career is at stake”. I refused to be cowed by his bullying. See the trail of messages. WhatsApp Trail. I included images of the messages with his cell number (which is publicly available). I have removed the cell number now and apologise for putting his cell number on this webpage. Everything else stands.
Here is the response in his newspaper
See the way they duck the overall truth, as expressed in this article. SA government and politicians show bias as Israel conflict escalates. It even shows contradictions with the editor’s WhatsApp messages.
I was quite surprised to see an “Anonymous Doctor” place a comment on SAJR relating to the article. I appreciate the sentiment and support but we must try to be civil in responding.
“I’m so sad that I came across this terrible page ..
Firstly, I am a wits trained doctor and I admire doctors like prof Moosa who are able to step outside their comfort zones and challenge the minds and beliefs of their younger doctors !! South Africa needs more doctors that stand up for what’s right !! Israel is an apartheid state !! Please stop denying it!! You basically killing Arabs and jailing innocent kids .. you have no humanity as Zionist ..
Secondly !! He posted his article on this group and that made the interns feel uncomfortable !! Oh please grow up ! It’s a bunch of white men trying to bully us into acting a way suitable for them !! Imagine a bunch of privileged white men felt uncomfortable for the first time in their life
Thirdly !! Screw the author !! That he thinks he has any authority to report and demand ‘action’ who do you think you are ?? Clearly you’re a Zionist !! Going around demanding shit !! When you deserve nothing”
