
During a closed meeting of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee yesterday, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that his government is considering the so-called “Generals’ Plan.”
He stated: “This is one of the plans under consideration, though there are others. We are committed to dismantling Hamas’ civil control.”
Developed by retired officers from the “Commanders and Reservists Forum”, the plan is purportedly aimed at “defeating Hamas.”
Netanyahu clarified that “military rule [in Gaza] is not the goal. It is a means, not an end. We do not seek to control or annex the area. We will not annex Gaza.”
“I believe the advantages of the Palestinian Authority outweigh its disadvantages. The Authority should not have control over Gaza, but it is also wrong to work towards its collapse in the West Bank,” he added. ….more
