I am so pleased to share with you our recently completed book, Health for the People: National Community Health Worker Programs from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

The book consists of case studies of 29 national community health worker programs, along with lengthy introductory and concluding chapters. Altogether, this document contains 476 pages of useful and hard-to-obtain current information about national community health programs that is not readily available elsewhere. The case studies all follow the same format, making it possible to compare similar dimensions from program to program. This has been a team effort of 78 other co-authors working with me.

As Steve Hodgins says in his foreword, this book is “an invitation to dig deeper and learn more about these programs.”

As the momentum for building strong national CHW programs continues to grow around the world, all of us who contributed to this book hope that it will serve as a useful resource that can add more momentum to the movement and contribute to health for the people.

[The book is] available at the following link:

Please feel free with any colleagues who might be interested and distribute it on any listservs you support. We want this to be as widely available as possible.

Thanks and best wishes,
