We are pleased to have secured some funding to work with teachers, children, and other experts and practitioners in Guam to develop ‘Children for Health’ posters and on the topic of prevention of Diabetes.

For those who don’t know too much about our work – we find that children can be of great influence – not just with younger siblings and their own age friends but in the family too. At the very least children can start asking neutral questions about the topic and in sensitive, specific ways that are appropriate to their position in the family. Anecdotally we are told that these family discussions can then lead to subtle but important changes in the way families do things.  I remember a father telling me about his 9-year-old daughter…”What she was asking, just made me think… then I discussed what she was saying with my friends and we agreed that the changes were necessary.”  He also said how at first he was not happy about it! I loved this discussion as it felt really real and I expect that the changes he made were sustained too.

As part of all our projects, we seek to assemble a group of practitioners and experts to help in a voluntary capacity to ensure that our content and activities are accurate and up to date.

If you would like to become a part of this review group – please contact me urgently as we are needing to complete this work over two months and have a draft by the end of this month (May 2021). Most of the work will be done by email and in partnerships with children and colleagues in Gaum…more
