WONCA News – January 2020
The latest WONCA News (January 2020) has just been published and can be accessed at https://www.globalfamilydoctor.com/site/DefaultSite/filesystem/documents/email%20Newsletters/20Jan.pdf

From the WONCA President
In his column this month the President returns to the topic of environmental disasters. The risk of disasters is escalating. But keeping quiet and hoping that environmental changes are not presenting us with clear and identifiable risks would be wrong. Through small individual actions and in larger policy-making opportunities, family doctors have both an opportunity and a responsibility to speak up for our patients’ health and the risks faced by environmental change. This is particularly apposite, as bush fires continue to rage in Australia.

Donald Li on the Coronavirus: first in, last out.
Moving on to another natural disaster, and with the increasing concern of the novel coronavirus outbreak, Dr Donald Li, WONCA president, has written a message regarding the important role of family doctors and primary healthcare in Disaster / Emergency preparedness and response.

WONCA Calendar 2020
Dr Pratyush Kumar, WONCA Executive Member at large, has produced innovative calendars for several years now. This year he’s created a WONCA Calendar which features the amazing work done by our Working Parties (WPs) and Special Interest Groups (SIGs). It’s a great tool for all members to appreciate and participate in the multiple initiatives put forth by our WPs and SIGs.  WONCA events and important global health events have been highlighted as well.

Supporting a colleague to attend the Rural conference in Dhaka
Several people have asked about supporting a colleague to attend the Dhaka rural health conference. Rural WONCA, have, with kind help of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, organised a link at which you can donate a single or several registration(s). The hope is that donors attending the conference will be able to meet the person their donation has supported.

To make a donation go to https://acrrm.eventsair.com/wrhc20/donation. When you have made a donation, the site will then send a confirmation e-mail to you and the organisers. All prices are in Australian dollars (AUD) and have been converted from the prices on the website which are in USD and BDT.
