World Family Doctor Day – 19th May
We wish all our colleagues all around the world a very happy Family Doctor Day for 19th May. World Family Doctor Day (FDD) – 19th May – was first declared by WONCA in 2010 and it has become a day to highlight the role and contribution of family doctors in health care systems around the world. The event is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the central role of our specialty in the delivery of personal, comprehensive and continuing health care for all of our patients. It’s also a chance to celebrate the progress being made in family medicine and the special contributions of family doctors globally.
Movie; “Planetary health: what is this?”
The young doctors and medical students of the WONCA Working Party on Rural Practice (Rural Seeds) have worked together with young members of the Working Party on the Environment to make an innovative movie. The short movie “Planetary Health? What is this?” was selected for the FISFA “International Short Film & Arts Festival” hosted by the Academy of Family Physicians of India in association with the 15th WONCA World Rural Health Conference 2018 held in Delhi at the end of April.
Featured Doctor: Dr Ernesto Mola
And staying with the environmental theme, one of this month’s Featured Doctors is Ernesto Mola, a member of the WONCA’s WP on the Environment. Ernesto has a great interest in overmedicalisation and medical harm and has represented WONCA at a number of workshops and working groups on the topic of radiological risk from diagnostic radiation in patients. He still finds time (39 years!) to practice family medicine Lecce, in Southern Italy, a historical city of 90,000 inhabitants, and in a rural practice near the city, and he is also involved both as a teacher and as coordinator of the interdisciplinary theoretical activities in the Vocational Training of Family Doctors, in Lecce.
Hotel bookings for Seoul Council now available
Last month Dr Garth Manning, our CEO, outlined plans for the various meetings in Seoul, including regional councils and World Council. These meetings will take place at the Sheraton Incheon Hotel, and the hotel has now set up a specific website to deal with WONCA bookings for these events.
