A very Happy New Year to all our readers. 2018 will be a busy year for WONCA, culminating in the 2018 World Council and Conference in Seoul in October, but rest assured that all important news and information will be circulated weekly, either through the WONCA News or through these weekly e-updates. The latest WONCA News (December 2017) was only issued in mid-December, and will remain current until February’s news is published on 3rd February.

From the CEO’s Desk: Conferences recent and future
In his monthly column, Dr Garth Manning reports on two very successful recent WONCA regional conferences – the Asia Pacific Region conference in Pattaya, Thailand, and the South Asia Region conference in Kathmandu, Nepal. He also looks ahead to the 2018 World Conference in Seoul, Korea. The venue for the WONCA Executive meeting, the meeting of WONCA Regional Councils and the WONCA World Council meeting has now been confirmed. Rather than holding these meetings in Seoul itself, they will all be held at the Sheraton Hotel in Incheon. Incheon is the region where the international airport is situated, and the hotel is only around 20 minutes by road from the airport. More information, as always, can be found on the WONCA website.
Featured Doctor – Dr Garth Manning
And our CEO, Dr Garth Manning, is also one of WONCA featured doctors for this month. Garth has been WONCA CEO for more than five years now, and he’s going to be around for a bit longer as Executive has extended his contract through to the end of 2020. Garth is a family doctor and has had an interesting and multifaceted career so it’s high time he was a WONCA featured doctor so we can all find out more about him!
PCI GP Update Global Programme 2018
WONCA has an association with Primary Care International (PCI) which is the only organisation accredited by the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) to deliver primary care updates specifically developed for family doctors practising internationally. PCI’s GP Update Global Programme 2018, to be held at the Wellcome Trust in London from 16-20 April, has been awarded 30 CPD credits by RSM in accordance with its current guidelines. Further details are at https://www.gp-update.co.uk/gp-update-5-day-2018
The course is a unique opportunity open to GPs/family doctors practising outside of the UK to network with colleagues from around the world. It will bring delegates up to speed on all the latest evidence-based updates in primary care – and offers 30 hours of consecutive learning (30 CPD credits).
Feedback from the last course was incredibly positive: 100% of delegates said that they would come again and would recommend it to colleagues.
