
In a whirlwind week for global legal developments, two of the world’s highest courts took landmark steps to address the Gaza war that has been raging since the attacks of October 7.
On May 20, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, announced that he was seeking arrest warrants for several top Israeli and Hamas leaders for war crimes and crimes against humanity: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, whom he accused of intentionally starving and directing attacks against Palestinian civilians in Gaza; and Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif, and Ismail Haniyeh, who were held responsible for directing the killing and abduction of Israeli civilians on October 7. …..more
