Campaign: Palestine – Advocating for Consistent Justice

Welcome to the Campaign: Palestine, an initiative of the Caucus of Family Doctors for Global Justice. This campaign is a core part of our mission to ensure that global justice issues impacting health are addressed consistently and ethically by international medical bodies like the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA).

Our Focus

As family doctors committed to universal human rights, equity, and the ethical principles of our profession, we are deeply concerned by the humanitarian crisis in Palestine and the perceived inconsistency in the response from WONCA and its constituent bodies.

We believe that justice is a fundamental health principle and that inaction or selective response to human suffering contradicts the core values of family medicine. This campaign serves as a vital platform to:

  • Highlight the severity and historical context of the crisis in Palestine.
  • Examine WONCA’s past responses to global crises, particularly the situation in Ukraine.
  • Expose the perceived “double standard” in WONCA’s approach to Palestine.
  • Discuss the ethical implications of inaction and silence for medical professionals and organizations.
  • Argue for why consistent, principled action is essential for WONCA’s credibility.
  • Advocate for specific actions from WONCA and its members.
  • Provide educational resources to deepen understanding.
  • Debunk common myths and misinformation surrounding the issue.

The situation in Palestine is complex, spanning over a century, but many sources argue that understanding the core issues, such as settler-colonialism and occupation, is not overly complicated. This campaign aims to provide clarity and a platform for action based on ethical medical principles and a commitment to global justice.
