Do you want to do research in Johannesburg Primary Health Care?
See more about Johannesburg Health District here
Please start by filling an application on the National Health Research Database (NHRD). See the Researcher Manual (PHRC 2017) to guide you as well. Don’t worry about the immediate requirement for ethics approval in the NHRD form. You should get an email from NHRD, after completing the application, with the NHRD reference number. After that fill in the Jhb DRC Application Form* and then email the full set of documents (with NHRD Ref. No. in subject line) to Busisiwe.Sikhosana@gauteng.gov.za. Remember our deadlines are:
- 30th August 2020
- 31st September 2020
- 30th October 2020
You should get an email supporting your research in principle, that you can include in your ethics application. Your application for ethics can proceed concurrently with our process.
Your proposal and related documents will be forwarded to the Jhb DRC Review Panel. The Jhb DRC meets 10 times a year (Feb-Nov) on the third Wednesday of every month and will approve (or not) all research submitted by the deadline of the end of the previous month.
You will get an email by the fourth week of the month with a decision. If you don’t have ethics approval yet it will be approved provisionally, subject to your ethics approval being emailed. Once we receive this then we will send you a formal approval letter. The final approval letter will be signed by the Chief Director, Johannesburg Health District, and/or the Executive Director, Health Department, City of Johannesburg. You should usually get a response within one week of presenting your ethics approval.
If you are following up then please quote your NHRD reference number! You can email, call, or visit Busi Sikhosana at the Jhb DRC Office at Hillbrow CHC Administration Building, Klein Street, Hillbrow, Johannesburg to follow up. See more about the District Research Committee of Johannesburg Health District, including Busi’s details.
